The adrenaline rush was fun when young. Exciting that the business depended on me to fix an immediate problem. As I got older calls in the middle of the night and on weekends got old. By 30 years of I was done

Additionally- I think everyone should have a stint of operations and working on call. It improves your perspectives on testing, testing auto failover properly etc before applications and services go live

I miss the examples (mistakes and wins) that shape most every one of my talks on stage.  I miss the camaraderie of being in the trenches with folks solving impossible problems with impossible timelines

Getting direct feedback from customers as to their pain points, not just filtered examples from the middle.
