Looking for input, suggestions on how others are archiving/long term storing data in the cloud. We had considered using our backup solution, but that is proving to be much more difficult.  We are also considering archiving long term data directing with Azure/AWS with any other layers of complexity, which may provide indexing, search, management of the data.  What are we missing or not thinking about?

Top Answer : We use a combination of AWS , Firebase along with Github LFS to back up our data. And it is working fine for us since last 9 years.

Take a look at Datomia (disclosure: I'm an Advisor). They are vendor/cloud agnostic and only require a replication factor of 1.4x instead of the typical 2-3x. A large media company is moving their archive solution from tape to commodity servers using Datomia.

Did you try exploring on premise solutions from netapp or Emc? They offer storage as service on premise. Archival data will be huge and in case you want to change cloud provider, the cost of retrieving your data will be very expensive
