What are leading indicators that someone in the org could be your ally/champion?

Top Answer : I would look at the right role and the right level.  Depending on what you're trying to influence, you first have to find the person in the right domain. The second thing is level.  If you're a senior director or a director, it doesn't really make sense to go and pitch and try to find a champion in someone who's a VP or an SVP. I feel like you need to be at the same level to build that rapport, to build that champion.  The third element is really where your emotional IQ skills kick in. You can kind of figure out folks that are open-minded... or even if they're not completely open-minded, they may be on the fence and have a spark in their eyes when you talk about the processes and changes.  I guess another way of saying this is, a friendly face. Who can you vibe with? Who do you get along with? You definitely want the domain expertise. You definitely want the level because you want someone at the same level who's actually able to influence and is in a position to influence and help you make those decisions, but at the same time, they need to be a friendly face, someone who is open-minded.

1 - BODY LANGUAGE, read about it. 2 - INTEGRITY (they do as they say as they think). 3 - INSTINCT, what do you feel around that person?.
