If you have a non-traditional candidate who doesn't have all the certifications or years of experience a traditional candidate would, what qualities do you look for that signal this person has promise?

Top Answer : Almost always I just ask for an approach: how do you think about this problem? Security is a great one. Security audits, whether it's NIST standards, ISO standard, etc...they've got a requirement and here's how you test it. Here's how you confirm evidence. Here's how you validate it. So, if the candidate can walk me through an approach to that, then I know that even if they’ve never done an ISO audit, they’ll be able to.  For example, I hired a human resource officer onto my team, who is actually amazing at policy because he understands what people need to know to be armed with the right information to do the job right and make the right decisions? My HR Officer was phenomenal at that, because he understands people. That was a lot more important than understanding the policy options of my mobile device management tool.
