Can the CIO and IT organization sustain technology hype and deliver value?

Sustaining the tech hype is only useful if you can deliver on it. I believe that the best way to deliver value to your company is to introduce products and services that propel the organization forward.

There are several ways you can do this –

  1. Through your own IT department, i.e. introducing profitable and efficient solutions to internal issues,
  2. By taking on the role of the connector; i.e. introducing new companies and ideas to peers in marketing, business and finance.

I enjoy playing the role of connector of people and ideas. My team and I constantly search for interesting companies and startups that are building products that complement our business. If my own org does not benefit from them, I make sure to pick up the phone and introduce them to my colleagues. This not only sustains the tech hype, but with the right due diligence is able to add substantial value throughout the company.

Spend time in the business , observe how work is being done, ask questions, look for opportunity / problems, what new tech hype could help solve these? Often we hear the latest marketing hype and try and apply some new technology without first seeing what the issues are in front of us.
