Is business automation exciting or terrifying?

When I talk to other CIOs, there is concern about the proliferation of RPA technology within highly regulated industries, like financial services and healthcare. I know of a financial services firm in New York that went on an RPA bot deconstruction campaign because they realized they had 800 bots running around the company but they only knew what 50 of them were doing. The auditors were going to be there in eight weeks so they had to do it or else they might have gotten themselves in big trouble. And here's a chilling comment that came up in a recent conversation. There was a CIO at a large company who said, "Do you realize that every employee that has Windows 10 on their desktop is an automation engineer?" Because Microsoft has this Power Automate offering, which is part of your enterprise license agreement, and whether an employee realizes it or not, or their manager realizes it or not, they've been they've been weaponized to go out into the business and potentially do things that nobody will ever know about.
