Accelerating the move towards a cloud infrastructure - how do you decide / what applications go first? Which are top of the list for you currently?

First we try to stop the flow of new non-cloud. Then we prioritize for those apps overdue for an upgrade that we will be retaining 4+ years. Apps with security risks can also be a priority if we can’t shut it down or migrate to a different solution

From my perspective, determining app dependencies is critical for deciding which apps should go first, so a full inventory of applications and their dependencies regardless of how small or big should be made available, additionally, compatibility with the cloud and flexibility of moving such apps should also be identified, some workloads might be running on very old hardware/software or difficult to move. based on such list and potentially other factors such as app usage, we can start planning the initial list of apps and their migration priorities.

The ones that will benefit the most from the elasticity and scalability of cloud infrastructure. Lifting and Shifting a traditional n-tier monolith will result in increased costs and subsequent frustration.
