Luckily I migrated the entire business to Skype/Teams, O365, Git, Jira and Xero 10 months ago. We've all been working remotely for the last week without any clients realising.

Higher Education is not as equipped to support a remote workforce like other industries I have worked in. It will take sometime to completely move the faculty/staff completely remote.

we really can't. We have too much security and restrictions on our activities.

We provide medical services, our physicians and staff are on the front line. We provide telemedicine solutions where  applicable. Our support teams are somewhat remote.

We can work remotely indefinitely, we have the infrastructure in place, home office replicate work office, i.e., take home computer and monitor.

We've had a completely remote workforce for years now.

Simple tools: slack, e-mail, calendar, skype. Short meetings scheduled at the start of the day so the rest is free to be productive. Most things aren't urgent and can be handled by e-mail or Slack if a discussion is needed. Skype is used for face to face contact. Slack / Skype is used not just for "company business" but for all the other usual conversations that would happen at work regarding things outside work and the world around us. You still need all of those for a company to survive. Occasionally we get together for lunch / dinner to catch up in person.

We moved thousands of people across multiple campuses to work remotely in 2 days. Expect to see a productivity hit if people aren’t used to it. Be flexible as it takes time to get a cadence to WFH in these times. If you HAD the right culture and the appropriate technology, I believe the teams can be productive over extended periods. There may be little choice so the bigger question is, how are you going to get there?

Like other Education entities, completely remote is not feasible due to labs instructions being associated with a course.  That said, most of the employees, and a number of faculty can work remotely.  Currently we are using Zoom and Teams for collaboration and it works great.  Also, over the past 5 years we have been migrating most of the systems we access over to the cloud, so these become accessible from any location.  To secure access we have implemented 2FA.

I'm not saying it would be easy, but I do think if we had to we could adjust to all remote on an ongoing basis.  I hope we don't have to!
